How VCare Helped the Royal Hospital Donnybrook Streamline Care and Reporting
The Royal Hospital Donnybrook, a specialised rehabilitation facility for older adults in Dublin, offers a range of services including stroke, neuro, and orthogeriatric rehabilitation, as well as respite care. With 64 residents across its facility, the hospital is committed to patient-centred care and continues to expand its services to meet growing demand.
By late 2022, it was clear that their existing systems—a combination of paper-based records and a separate administrative platform—were no longer meeting the hospital’s operational needs. “To be honest, we weren’t satisfied with the previous system,” said Romona Michis, Patient Services Manager. “It was overly complicated, hard to navigate, and difficult to train staff on. We needed a solution that was user-friendly, efficient, and better suited to our growing requirements.”
The Decision to Choose VCare
After exploring several alternatives and conducting site visits, Romona and the former CEO chose VCare as the most comprehensive and user-friendly option.
“We visited Beaumont Hospital to see VCare in action,” Romona explained. “We spoke with their CEO and Director of Nursing and were immediately impressed. VCare was clear, intuitive, and financially viable—it was the best fit for us.”
Seeing the system in a real-world setting gave the team the confidence that VCare could seamlessly integrate into their own operations and deliver measurable results.

The Challenges Before VCare

Before VCare, accessing and sharing patient information was time-consuming and error-prone. Handwritten notes were sometimes illegible, documents went missing, and records were often misfiled. “These issues were common,” said Operations Manager Stephen Adamson. “They led to delays and took time away from direct patient care.”
Auditing and reporting were equally cumbersome, with staff spending hours tracking down paperwork and compiling data manually—time that could be better spent supporting residents.
The Impact of VCare
Since implementing VCare in December 2022, the hospital has seen significant improvements in day-to-day operations. Staff now have real-time access to patient records via tablets or remote login, reducing administrative burdens and improving responsiveness.
“VCare has significantly improved how we manage records,” said Stephen. “We can retrieve files instantly, whether we’re on the ward or in our offices.”
Romona noted how reporting has also become far more efficient. “We can easily generate reports for any timeframe—three months, six months, a year—and track key data like admissions, discharges, and infection rates. This is incredibly helpful for internal use and ensures we meet HSE compliance requirements.”

Ongoing Support That Makes a Difference
One of the standout benefits for the Royal Hospital Donnybrook has been the ongoing support from the VCare team. “They’re truly one in a million,” Romona said. “Unlike other systems where support fades after implementation, Eoin, Mairead, and the VCare team have been consistently supportive—always patient, professional, and available.”
Looking Ahead
VCare has enabled the Royal Hospital Donnybrook to move away from outdated processes and toward a more integrated, efficient, and compliant system—one that truly supports the high standard of care they are known for.
